Pakistan Cricket Team is visiting Sri Lanka for an International Cricket Series, they will be playing 3 Tests, 5 One Day Internationals and two T20 Internationals. Contest between the two teams has always been exciting, and it doesn’t matter if they are playing t20, ODI or test as both teams have shown in the past that they can turn even a test match into a nail biting contest. Had it be Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Test Series 2013/14 where Pakistan made a record run chase to draw the series or Test Series 2014 (in Sri Lanka) where Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan to take the series 2-0, we have witnessed both teams fighting for the victory till the end and entertaining cricket fans all over the world.
Both nations head to head in ODI’s have faced each other 142 times where Pakistan has outnumbered with 81 victories against islanders, and also in T20’s and tests Pakistan is ahead for the number of victories but better keep these numbers aside as Sri Lanka’s home record is better than all Asian teams, having being titled as Asian Champions in March 2014, they are really going to give tough time to Pakistan this series and we can expect great cricket from both sides.
The fact that Pakistan will be led by young captain Azhar Ali doesn’t make any difference now because Azhar Ali has shown his class as a captain against Zimbabwe in the home series that he is very talented, scoring a blistering ton and making his team achieve an easy win. On the other side, Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews is one of the best cricketers of this decade, he has proved quite a lot of times that he has no match when it comes to power hitting in today’s fast cricket and also he is very handy in bowling, taking wickets and giving his team important breakthroughs.
As far as test matches are concerned, I think this is going to be a series in which one can’t say for sure which team is going to dominate, one side has the most experienced players in the world and without a doubt, islanders have got an edge over Pakistan because of Kumar Sangakara as we are well aware of the fact that he scores runs with much ease than any other player in the world. But Pakistan team’s unpredictability has been a much of concern for other teams, the ability to do the impossible, and to turn the situation upside down are the qualities possessed prominently by Pakistan. Perhaps this is going to be the real reason for the amazing cricket we are going to see in next couple of days. Both teams are very balanced ODI sides too, Pakistan might have struggled maintaining their bowling in the past couple of series, but let’s hope they get over it this time.
Watching the series between the two will be more amusing this time, as I have planned to play fantasy cricket, an exquisite idea introduced by Seven Koncepts. Much to my amusement, on their website Fantasy Cricket, you can make a team by picking 6 players from each side and get points when each of your player performs well in the real match, great idea isn’t it? This idea is tremendous for those cricket fans who like to get their predictions evaluated and of course they will earn respect from all of the players playing fantasy cricket on the web.
